Methane Leak Community Meeting – Broomfield
September 30 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The city of Broomfield has organized a special community meeting to discuss the ongoning methane leak that was discovered recently in Anthem Highlands in Broomfield. Although the source is not known, the city says the subsurface leak is associated with the plugged and abandoned “Davis 43-6 well.” Read the city’s announcement here.
This leak is located under Graham Peak Way in Anthem Highlands where new housing construction is underway. The “Davis 43-6 well” is a mere 560 feet from the nearest occupied home. (This enlarged map of the leak area does not show the new homes being built in the field). More monitoring and testing is being performed.
Come to the meeting to learn more. Find out why the public was not informed about this leak as soon as it was detected, and why information was not made available about how citizens should protect themselves.
- Date: this Monday, Sept 30
- Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm
- Location: Broomfield City & County Building, City Council Chambers (1 Descombes Dr.) Map
- Childcare Note: according to an email from the City Manager, meeting attendees may leave their children at a conference room near where the meeting will be held
No one wants a repeat of the fatal home explosion in Firestone that was caused by gas leaking through the soil from a nearby abandoned well. The public needs answers about what is happening in Broomfield.
