On Saturday 9/6/25, an abandoned oil and gas well in Weld County started spewing water and hydrocarbons. Front Range Fire and Rescue sent multiple emergency vehicles, and closed several nearby roads. No one was injured and no evacuations were ordered, despite the potential toxic substances that were being released. The location of the well is near WCR 378 just east of Two Rivers Parkway.
The incident prompted a large emergency response with Greeley Fire Department Haz-Mat, Milliken Police Department, Weld County Sheriffs Office, Weld County Office of Emergency Management, and Weld County Public Works all assisting Front Range Fire and Rescue. The company that owns the well (Chevron) was on site and planned to start capping the well, a process that could take multiple days.
