Devastating result, but citizens resolve to fight on
The ECMC has voted 3-1 to approve the mega-fracking project known as the Lowry Ranch CAP. This planned oil and gas operation will drill up to 166 new fracking wells just east of Denver next to the Aurora Reservoir, homes, schools, and adjacent to the Lowry Superfund site. The proposal has undergone some revisions, now the plan will use 8 new pads and 2 existing ones in an attempt to reduce the industrial footprint. Horizontal wellbores will no longer go directly under the superfund site and electrical machinery will be used. Small comfort for the thousands of homeowners who have been fighting this project for years in order to protect their health, safety, home values and quality of life.
Opponents pledged to continue the fight. Each individual well pad application will require approval before drilling can start, and those approvals require more hearings and allow opportunities for public comment. Colorado Rising stands with STAR and all the community members in this struggle.
