US Supreme Court will Rule on Uinta Basin Railway Project

US Supreme Court Agrees to hear UBR Case:

On 3/4/24, the Uinta Basin Railway project’s backers asked the US Supreme Court to restore the permits and allow the UBR project to be built, and on 6/24/24 the Supreme Court agreed to review the case, which is now scheduled for Dec 10, 2024.  In a positive development, Colorado’s Attorney General has also filed Supreme Court briefs opposing the UBR.  Although the project’s backers keep fighting, each step they take will face much more widespread opposition – now that public awareness of this misguided project continues to increase.  We will keep fighting the UBR and will keep you informed with UBR updates and future actions that you can take.

What is the UBR?

If approved, the UBR will haul millions of barrels of hot waxy crude oil across Colorado by rail as it travels hundreds of miles along the Colorado River. Up to 10 trains per day – each one up to 1-2 miles in length with an estimated 100 cars – will rumble through Grizzly Canyon, Gore Canyon, the Moffat Tunnel and downtown Denver on the way from Utah to the Gulf Coast for refinement. With the frequency of wildfires, rockslides, mudslides, avalanches, and flooding throughout the west, a derailment poses an unthinkable threat to the 40 million people who rely on the Colorado River to survive.  Check out our UBR page here for more background.
