Lowry Ranch CAP Fracking Plans Revised – Risks Enumerated

Risks of fracking near superfund site and reservoir

The O&G operator Civitas has had to refile its drilling plan for Aurora’s Lowry Ranch mega-project.  This is an indication that the obvious dangers of this proposal are finally being taken seriously by state regulators at the prompting of the EPA.

Specifically, Civitas has agreed not to send its horizontal wellbores under the Lowry Superfund site which contains carcinogenic toxic chemicals.  The fear is that the drilling process and potential for inducing earthquakes could cause the toxic substances to leak into the aquifer and drinking water reservoir.  Civitas made other revisions to their plan that were requested by ECMC. There are concerns that the fracking projects could also rupture the Aurora Reservoir dam.
